Teaching Statement
My teaching philosophy is based on my belief that teaching is all about the students. I strongly
believe that learning needs to be student centered and that students need to be equal partners in
the learning process. A good teacher recognizes the differences in each individual student and
serves to their special needs.
I believe students are most successful when they feel valued as individuals, supported, and
motivated to learn. My role as a teacher in the classroom is not to control but to facilitate. As a
foreign language teacher, besides transmitting knowledge, passing on certain language facts,
informing the learners about rules, I will pay special attention to monitor their interactions, being
patient and sympathetic, willing to explain when the students still do not understand something.
I think the role of a foreign language teacher is not merely to deliver the language facts but to
motivate students to seek information about the language and culture that interest them. My
teaching should never kill their desire to learn a difficult foreign language, but to inspire and
strengthen this powerful desire to learn. I will consider my teaching successful if my students
continue to seek opportunities to listen to and speak the language even after leaving my classroom.
“I will act as if what I do will make a difference.” William James once said. Being passionate is
most important key element in successful teaching. Believing that what I do is not merely delivering
language facts, but to fill the gap between two different cultures and understandings of two different
people motivates me to teach. Being enthusiastic, a teacher can pass the love of subject to the
students and motivate students to learn beyond the classroom.
Perhaps the most difficult task in the classroom is to keep the class interested with the material
that is relevant to the course. This requires learning of successful teaching skills, years of experience
and careful preparation ahead of the class. To achieve this I will constantly evaluate my teaching
methods as well as continuous seeking my own individual development.
