Guidelines for Financial Assistance & Co-sponsorship Consideration
Requests for financial assistance from the Commission on
Multicultural Understanding (COMU) are considered requests for co-sponsorship.
COMU's Executive Council considers such requests on an as-received, case-by-base basis.
Typically, the commission provides $75-$100 per
funded request. Requests need to minimally meet the following guidelines:
- The activity or project needs to be multicultural in nature,
and designed to foster appreciation for diversity and
understanding of racism and other forms of oppression in
society and on the Indiana University (IU) campus.
- While activities or projects may be open to a broader
audience, the primary intended audience needs to be IU
students, staff, and/or faculty.
- If the activity or project primarily is being organized by an
off-campus organization, co-sponsorship needs first to be
obtained from an IU student organization or an IU office/department before being presented to COMU's Executive Council.
- Priority will be given to activities or projects that do not
require admission/participation fees. If there are financial
costs involved with participation in an activity or project,
the commission's preference is that waivers are available for
those who currently cannot afford the financial costs, and
that information about such waivers is included in publicity
about the activity or project.
The following information also is needed:
(a) the total projected amount of all financial costs related to the activity or project;
(b) the amount of the financial support wanted from COMU;
(c) information about how specifically COMU's money would be
used; and
(d) the names of other organizations, offices, departments, etc. who
are being approached as
possible co-sponsors.
