AGE: The Age Aware Workshop
Objectives
- Participants will come away with an increased knowledge about normal, age-related sensory changes.
- Through simulation of hearing, vision, and other changes associated with age, participants will have a greater empathy for older adults and their strengths as applied to compensating for sensory change.
- Participants will be able to define the notion of "disabling environments."
The workshop takes one hour, combines didactic with simulation experiences, including "the unfair hearing test" and a variety of vision experiments.
Materials are supplied. Optimum size for the workshop is 20-25 persons.
Presenter is Philip B. Stafford, Ph.D., a cultural anthropologist who has worked in the field of health/mental health and aging for twenty years.

Adjustment of International Elderly in Bloomington
Gal Shifron is a Gerontology Specialist with the South Central Community Mental Health Center. He has lived in Israel and compares aging issues in the United States and Israel.
Mr. Shifron is available for support groups on the topics of aging adjustment disorders and other aging related topics.

Age and Ageism
The Center on Aging and aged can provide consultation, presentation, or workshops on ageism, i.e., discrimination based on older age. Presentations also available on what research tells us about the kinds of physical and mental changes that occur as we age and their implications for the workplace.
