Present: Linda Smith, Walter Gantz, Allan Edmonds, Richard Carr, Cynthia Bannon, Michael Gasser, Steven Stowe, Gerald Wright, Kirstine Lindemann, Sharon O'Bryan, Catharine Hoff, and Aimee Dawson.

ACTIONS
1. Approved (with corrections) minutes of October 22, 2001 meeting.
2. Approved (with corrections) minutes of November 12, 2001.
3. Set spring semester meeting times: First Tuesdays of the month at 8:00 am in KH 007.

DISCUSSION
The committee continued discussion of the Fundamental Skills Requirement in Mathematics. Dan Maki, chair of the Math Department, joined the committee for discussion. Prof. Maki presented a brief history of the fundamental skills requirement and the mathematical skills assessment test (MSA) at Indiana University Bloomington from 1974 to the present, and then answered questions from the committee. Questions and discussion involved the MSA, remedial courses, definition of the proficiency requirement and how to test for proficiency, and how best to prepare students for a quantitative requirement.

The next meeting is scheduled for 8:00 am on Monday, December 10, 2001, in KH 007.
