Summer Instructional Development Fellowships

The Summer Instructional Development Fellowship (SIDF) program is now accepting applications for projects that explore innovative approaches to online and hybrid courses. Awards of $8,000 will support summer work on developing courses, modules, or instructional approaches that promote high levels of student engagement in online or hybrid courses. Read More and Apply

The Institute for Designing Online Courses

The CITL's Institute for Designing Online Courses (iDOC) is now accepting applications. iDOC is a summer program that guides participants through the process of designing an online course. Participants will view examples of online courses and activities, explore course development and delivery tools, and work with consultants and other participants to refine their course designs. Ken Bain Will Visit IUB April 4 and 5

Noted scholar, author, and educator Ken Bain will visit the IUB campus on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5. Mark your calendars now for the public Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) presentation based on Bain's latest book, What the Best College Students Do. The presentation will take place in the Georgian Room of the IMU from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on April 4. Bain will discuss how good teachers create classroom experiences that help all students achieve deep and meaningful learning.
What the Best College Students Do Reading Group

In preparation for Ken Bain's visit in April, the CITL will be organizing a book group around his book, What the Best College Students Do. The group will begin on February 19. Professor Katy Börner Offering IU’s First Massive Open Online Course

Katy Börner, the Victor H. Yngve Professor of Information Science at the School of Library and Information Science, is currently teaching IU's first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), a seven-week course on information visualization. The CITL provided Professor Börner with both technological and pedagogical support as she developed this MOOC. Read More

Graduate Scholars Selected for Preparing Future Faculty Program

Three graduate students from the Department of Biology have been selected as 2013 Science Education Assessment Scholars as part of a grant to IU from the Council of Graduate Schools. Lisa Wiltbank (Professor David Kehoe’s lab), Sarah Keesom (Professor Laura Hurley’s lab), and Jakki Petzold (Professor Troy Smith’s lab) will work with CITL and Libraries staff as they help biology faculty integrate information literacy concepts, activities, and assessments into the curriculum and assess learning at the individual, course, and program levels.

The American Historical Association, with a grant from the Teagle Foundation, has assembled a team of leading experts in history teaching and historical thinking to explore ways to more effectively integrate the scholarship of teaching and learning into graduate history education. Two of the eight members of the expert panel are from IUB: Leah Shopkow and David Pace. Read More

An assignment using social pedagogy might ask students to use digital media tools such as blogs, podcasts, websites, or Twitter.
