CITL Moves to Franklin Hall
During July, CITL staff from around campus will begin moving to a common space in Franklin Hall 004 and 008 so we can better collaborate with each other to meet your needs.  As part of this move, we will be shutting down our locations in Wells Library and Ballantine Hall.  Check the CITL website for more updates and timetables.

Clickers for Fall
If you are interested in using clickers in your fall classes, be sure to contact us well in advance so we can help you prepare. There will be updated software and some new hardware and features for you to learn about. For more information, contact our Turning Technologies intern, Christina Melki. iPad FLC Presents its Work
After two semesters of exploring the potential use of iPads in the classroom, members of the iPad Faculty Learning Community are presenting their work to the IUB campus. Presenters are: Simon Brassell (Geological Sciences), Joshua Danish (School of Education), and Joe Pomerening (Biology). Come learn about their projects and findings on May 13, 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. in Wells Library 305 West Tower.

A 2007 EDUCAUSE Review article provides a good way of thinking about the evolution of instructional technology—pointing out a shift from the Information Age to the Interaction Age, in which we see information as "something with which, and around which, people can interact." This view provides CITL with a model for our thinking about the use of technology to support teaching and learning. Read More

  • Adobe Connect is scheduled to be upgraded to version 8 on May 7. Read More

Teach in the Innovative Union Street Classrooms
This spring, two innovative classroom spaces were opened in the Union Street complex—a "Café Classroom" that uses informal seating and layout to reduce traditional classroom hierarchies and enhance collaboration, and a "Learn Lab" that is designed to promote collaborative and team-based learning. Applications are being sought through April 8th from instructors who wish to teach in these spaces in Fall 2011. Read More

Online Course Development
CITL is developing a summer institute to guide IUB instructors through the process of designing an online course. The course site for this four-week program opens May 10th. Participants will meet as a group five times (May 17, 24, 26, June 1, 3) as well as engage in online activities, with the outcome being a detailed course design plan. Space is limited, so contact CITL if you would like to apply.

Call For Proposal Deadline Fast Approaching
Don't forget that funding for Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects is available for the 2011-12 year. The deadline for SOTL proposals is April 20, 2011.

Grants with Teaching Components
Are you applying for a grant that requires some instructional components—teaching statements, measurable learning outcomes, sample assignments, etc.? The CITL staff is available to consult with you to address these instructional elements in your grant proposal. Contact CITL to arrange a consultation.

Course Development Institute
Do you have plans to develop or revise a course over the summer? If so, you may wish to consider this year's Course Development Institute, which will begin the morning of Friday, July 8, and continue on through Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings the following week (July 11, 13, and 15). The Institute is free of charge and open to all instructors at IU-Bloomington. Read More

One of the most important theories in adult education is that of transformational learning. In its most basic form, this theory proposes that meaningful learning occurs most readily when learners use critical reflection to challenge their frames of reference—the body of assumptions through which they understand the world. This theory can be a powerful way to think about our students' learning, as well as our own professional development. Read More

Carnegie Scholar Comes to IUB
Pat Hutchings of The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching will speak at IUB on Friday, March 4 at 11am in the Grand Hall of the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. The topic of her talk is "The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and Student Outcomes Assessment: Meeting in the Middle."

Don’t forget that the deadlines for SOTL funding and Summer Instructional Development Fellowship opportunities are close approaching.

IUPUI Assessment Institute
IUPUI will host the Assessment Institute on October 30 – November 1, 2011, with sessions emphasizing assessment in capstone experiences, ePortfolios, civic engagement, first year experiences, general education, and more.  They are accepting session proposals through March 18th via this link.

Service-Learning Cox Scholars
The Service-Learning Program is honored to be part of the legacy of Jesse and Beulah Cox through the Cox Engagement Scholars. Cox Engagement Scholarships will fund 10 new Advocates for Community Engagement (ACEs) each year, allowing the ACE program to grow to a total of 40 ACEs. ACEs are a cornerstone of service-learning at IUB and we are extremely grateful for this support. Read More

Connexions
IU is looking for faculty who who may be interested in receiving assistance in putting their educational content in Connexions. Connexions (cnx.org) is an open source repository for authors to create and share their educational content. The content in Connexions is organized into modules that can be compiled as courses, books, reports, etc. Interested faculty may contact CITL for more information.

CITL offers several funding opportunities to promote excellence and innovation in teaching. The following awards are currently available: Active Learning Grants, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grants, Service-Learning Fellowships, Summer Instructional Development Fellowships, and Summer Writing-Teaching Grants. Read More

Information Fluency and Research Competency Grant
The Indiana University Libraries are offering an instructional development grant of $1500 for the design or revision of a course to incorporate information fluency into undergraduate and graduate curricula. Read More

Teaching with Sakai Innovation Award
The 4th annual Teaching with Sakai (Oncourse) Innovation Award competition closes on Feb 7, 2011. Winners of the 2011 award will have their expenses paid to present their winning entries at the 12th Sakai Conference which will be held in North America this June. Read More
