Research Interests: East Asian and Central Eurasian historical linguistics and philology (especially Mongol-Xianbeic, Sinitic, Tungusic, and Turkic), diachronic and synchronic phonology, morphology, linguistic typology, language description and documentation (including linguistic fieldwork), historical dialectology (including the dialects of Medieval or Middle Chinese), and philologically- and typologically-motivated approaches to language reconstruction and script decipherment.
