Advanced Turkish I

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Advanced Turkish teaches the language and culture of Turkey. Instruction takes the communicative approach to improve the language skills in an interactive way.

We use authentic materials like songs, movie clips, movies, newspapers. As a necessity of advanced level we will listen and watch actual news from Turkish TV channel via the link in the Oncourse web site.

All language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) are improved in class activities, and other assignments. As homework you will watch the news and then write a report about it.

We also offer coffee hours to enable students to have a friendly environment to interact with native speakers.

The instructor will also provide extra materials in class.

ASSIGNMENTS

Your grade is based upon homework assignments, quizzes and tests. There is a midterm and a final exam as well.

Class participation and attendance is mandatory.

Departmental Policies

The Department of Central Eurasian Studies no longer allows auditing of language courses. Any inquiries must be addressed to CEUS Chair directly.
Students enrolled in CEUS language courses obtain a grade at the end of each semester. The Department does not offer pass/fail options.
Incompletes are not given in CEUS language courses. Any inquiries must be addressed to CEUS Chair directly.

If you are a native speaker of a language or you are a citizen of the country or you graduated from a high school from the country, Indiana University and departmental policy may (or may not) prohibit you from enrollment in this language class.
