Course Objectives
This class offers an
introduction to basic communication skills in Modern Standard Persian. Its
general goal is to familiarize students with the sounds, alphabet, and basic
grammar of the language. Students will learn to read, write, speak, and
comprehend simple to moderately complex sentences. Through readings, class
conversations, listening to Persian language media programs, film viewing, and
cultural activities, students will also develop an awareness of the culture.

Assignments and requirements:
- Students will have
daily homework. Attendance and participation in class and lab is required.
- Once a week students
need to listen to Persian speaking radio or TV programs.
- Weekly tests and quizzes
- Midterm exam
- Final exam
- Attendance of cultural
events, 3-4 movies, tea hours, and special events.
Departmental requirements:

The Department of Central Eurasian Studies no longer allows auditing of
language courses. Any inquiries must be addressed to CEUS Chair directly.

Students enrolled in CEUS language courses obtain a grade at the
end of each semester. The Department does not offer pass/fail options.

Incompletes are not given in CEUS language courses. Any inquiries
must be addressed to CEUS Chair directly.

citizen of the country or you graduated from a high school from
the country, Indiana University and departmental policy may (or may not)
prohibit you from enrollment in this language class. Please direct all
