Tang Research Foundation Extends Support to the Department of Central Eurasian Studies
The Tang Research Foundation (TRF) supported faculty and graduate student exchange programs and annual international workshops on Silk Road studies between the Department of Central Eurasian Studies in the Hamilton Lugar School at Indiana University and the Department of History at Peking University from 2016-19 with grants of $85,000 per year. 8 graduate students and 6 faculty participated in the exchange programs. 16 faculty and students participated in each of the Silk Road workshops, the first held at Peking University, Beijing, in 2017, the second at Indiana University, Bloomington, in 2018, and the third at Azerbaijan University of Languages, Baku, in 2019.
Now the TRF has most generously extended its support for these exchanges and workshops from 2019-22 with annual grants of $120,000.
Jamsheed Choksy, Chair of Central Eurasian Studies, Distinguished Professor, and Co-Director of the exchange programs and workshops, lauded the Tang Research Foundation's invaluable assistance, observing "The TRF's ongoing support contributes much to the exchange of knowledge whose benefits spread well beyond IU and PKU by producing better understanding and productive synergies between the USA and the PRC."
