their PhD thesis before starting the fellowship and after September
2002. In addition, they may not have carried their normal activity in
Belgium for at least two years at the starting date. Appointments, which
are typically for one year, but with the possibility of renewal, are
research positions; a light contribution to post-graduate teaching might
be required. Net salary is of the order of 1900 euros per month. Members
of the EU are covered by the Belgian social insurance scheme.
Non-members are only insured for health care and can receive child
benefit. The department will provide the fellow with office space,
computer facilities, assistance in finding suitable accommodation, etc.
