Study Abroad: Undergraduates

WHERE IS AMERICA?

In this global and transnational moment, American Studies students are often asked to expand the horizons of their research agendas, to learn new languages and interpretive paradigms, and to re-conceptualize the static borders of the nation-state. Carefully conceived "study abroad" options in American Studies are filled with possibility and are incredibly important.

We want *all* of our majors and minors to try to go abroad. And we strongly recommend that students work with the Office of Overseas Studies to identify study abroad opportunities that can count towards your degree. Indeed, going abroad, it is possible to earn credit in American Studies -- including, potentially, foreign language credit. Our conception of American Studies as transnational, global, and comparative is in perfect harmony with study abroad. And some of our faculty even lead or accompany overseas learning experiences!

American Studies majors and minors have recently gone to Argentina, Australia, the Dominican Republic, and Spain.
