We coordinate and support a range of extra-curricular activities to produce, share, and deepen knowledge about Africa and its diasporas in a global world. These activities are also intended to build community by fostering intellectual exchange and collegiality. The Noon Talk series is an opportunity for faculty, graduate students, and visitors to present their research. The Wednesday Seminar Speaker series, organized by the faculty member offering our interdisciplinary African Studies graduate seminar, brings national and international scholars to campus. Both series take place every semester. In addition, we co-sponsor Africa-related guest speakers invited by departments in the College of Arts and Sciences and in the professional schools.
Initiatives led by African Studies faculty and students with the support of the Program are also integral to our activities, as are joint projects with other IU area studies centers. The special events related to these initiatives and projects include, but are not limited to symposia, workshops, and exhibitions.
