Since 1961, over 400 African Studies students have graduated with an Africa-focused Ph.D. African Studies students are enrolled in a range of different departments at Indiana University. Below is a current list of graduate students in African Studies, their departments, and contact information.

Virginia Bunker, vabunker [AT} indiana.edu, Virginia Bunker is in her second year of the African Studies M.A. She graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A. in International Studies and minors in French and Cultural Anthropology. Before coming to Indiana University she coached track and field at her high school in Alexandria, Virginia, and interned with a local DC nonprofit organization to organize its Africa service initiative. Virginia is currently studying Twi and researching 'sport for development and peace' programs and discourse in Ghana.

She received her BA in Political Science with a minor in African History from DePauw University in 2006. Working with issues that combine her regional focus and her interest in political philosophy, Carolyn's research involves the critical examination of post-colonial/third-world democracy. She is currently studying both isiZulu and Afrikaans as part of her research.
