The programs listed below are open to students across the Indiana University campus. The Schools of Business, Education, Journalism, and Public and Environmental Affairs also offer short-term programs for students in these fields. Cape Town, South Africa

Dakar, Senegal

This is a five week summer program in cooperation with the Université Cheikh Anta Diop and the University of Oregon. It is open to students from any U.S. university. Students are enrolled in a seminar, a Wolof language course, and a practicum (internship). Classroom study is complemented by excursions to sites outside Dakar. The next program will take place in 2015.

Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania

Spring semester or academic year program at the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, where students can take courses across the curriculum. Classroom instruction is in English. This is an Indiana University-sponsored program with a resident advisor, administered by the African Studies Program. Students apply and pay their fees through the IU Overseas Study Office. Gaborone, Botswana

Kakamega, Kenya

This is a four-credit, eleven week program with the School of Public and Environmental Affairs that incorporates one week of coursework and preparation in Bloomington, a two-week, on-site workshop series with an introduction to our NGO partners, and an eight-week internship at one of our NGO partners. Kigali, Rwanda

Spend two weeks in Kigali, the political and economic center of Rwanda, studying post-conflict reconstruction, policy, governance, and sustainable development in Africa. Students examine and analyze topics related to genocide, social and economic dimensions, and policy design (e.g. related to entrepreneurship and private sector mobilization, financing ranging from banking to microcredit, health, migration, and public sector capacity).
