Degree Options

Students interested in an Africa-focused master’s degree may obtain a free-standing master’s degree in African Studies or a dual/joint degree with Library and Information Science, Public and Environmental Affairs, or with Public Health. Students opting for a dual/joint degree must be admitted into African Studies and into the respective professional school. To learn about these different options, please consult the respective pages on this site.

Deadlines for fall semester admission:

January 15 for domestic applicants

December 1 for international applicants

U.S. citizens and permanent residents may also apply for January admission. The deadline for completing the application and providing all supporting materials is October 1.

Doctoral students in any discipline may complete a Ph.D. Minor in African Studies once they have been admitted into the department of their choice.
