Indiana University Conference on Strategic Planning of Higher Education for Afghanistan

As an important part of Indiana University's new initiative to support the reconstruction of higher education system in post-war Afghanistan, a conference on "Strategic Planning of Higher Education for Afghanistan" convened October 6-7, 2002 on IU Bloomington campus. The central aim of this effort is to bring a small group of highly experienced former officials of Kabul University (now living in the US), representatives of the current Afghan Ministry of Higher Education, current faculty and administrators of universities in Afghanistan (both from Kabul and provinces), representatives of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Washington, D.C., and a number of Afghan and Afghan-American scholars working in the American universities to discuss and articulate a strategic plan for post war higher education in Afghanistan. The primary goal of this gathering is to avail an opportunity for higher education professionals from Afghanistan to engage in a concerted effort to plan for the future higher education needs of their own nation at this critical moment in the history of Afghanistan. On the latter part of the second day of the Conference, the Afghan group will share their recommendations on a strategic plan for rebuilding higher education in post-Taliban Afghanistan with a group of Indiana University faculty and administrators (as well as other interested parties from the Foundations or US government and international organizations) and solicit their input.
