AsianFest at the Farmer's Market 2009

The Asian Culture Center in cooperation with the City of Bloomington's Safe and Civil City Program and Parks and Recreation departments cordially invites you to Asianfest celebration. Come and enjoy the diversity within Asian cultures through cultural performances, art crafts, cultural activities such as Asian roulette, Skittles Chopstick Challenge, and Raffle draw. Have a taste of the Classic Filipino Turon, Japanese Beef Curry, Vietnamese spring roll and other delicious Chinese and Indian dishes at the cooking demonstration. 10:00 a.m. "Tsukiyo no Kenshi" and "Shin-Takasago" on Japanese Shakuhachi by Tyler Fry
10:10 a.m. Folk songs, Bhajans, and Classical Dance from India Part 1 by Rama Cousik, Jyotsna Sundaresan, Paresh Mishra. Percussion: Hari Shankar and Shiva Shankar, Classical dance by Dhanalakshmi
10:25 a.m. Mongolian Folk Song 1 by Delgerbat and Ochmaa Escue Dasheveg.
10:35 a.m. Indian Dance to Desh Rangeela by Bindi-ana South Asian Girls' Club. People usually sing this song during the Holi Festival. Dance choreographed by Ruchi Shah and Preva Dave. For information about the kids dance workshop, please email omi@indiana.edu.

10:50 a.m. Indian Bollywood Dance by Ruchi Shah
Ruchi will be performing a style of Indian dance frequently featured in Bollywood films.
10:55 a.m. Mongolian Folk Song 2 by Delgerbat and Ochmaa Escue Dasheveg.
11:05 a.m. "Bayad" by Solongo Tseveen
A Mongolian traditional dance. Ms. Tseveen is a Fulbright fellow at IU.
11:15 a.m. "Sonnet II" and "Chatsumi" on Japanese Shakuhachi and Flute by Tyler Fry and Minori Inada. Performing a selection of Japanese folk and ensemble traditions to contemporary compositions.
11:20 a.m. Taiji Sword Dance by Xiuyu Cai, Kiuyomi Macy, Sue Kim, Jiangmei Wu. Apparatus training is an essential part of the Yang Style Taijiquan practice. Of the two short weapons, Dao or Jian, the latter is by far the most intricate and developed in its method. Sword masters, male and female, are frequently revered in Chinese history as both highly skilled martial heroes.
11:30 a.m. "Dadas" by Erin Wilson
A dance from the island of Borneo in Indonesia. This is traditionally a healing dance which has been composed for the stage. Movements reflect rituals that exist in the Hindu Kaharingan religion in Central Kalimantan.
11:40 a.m. "Kokdugakshi" (a form of marionette) by Korean School of Bloomington Indiana. Kokdugakshi is the name of the performance itself as well as the name of a character within this performance. The character appears very cheerful and humorous, but behind this facade, the character has deeper emotions that reflect a wearisome life and sense of loneliness.
11:50 a.m. Indian Dance to a Medley of Popular Bollywood Songs by Nishi Patel, Nikhita Bhateja, Anisha Kumar, and Priyanka Dube.
