Getting Started
Starting college is a big step for students and parents alike. Your son or daughter is new to Indiana University and they (and you) may be a little overwhelmed.
To begin:
- Get an overview of campus life.
- Plan to visit Bloomington or visit campus.
Next, you'll want to:
- Apply to IU Bloomington
- Learn how to pay for it all.
Once your child is admitted:
- Discover what to expect at orientation.
- Find out how to register for (or withdraw from) classes.
- Explore what residence life is like—such as what to bring and how to resolve roommate issues.
- See what on-campus services are available to your first-year student.
The process is a bit different for international students.
Student safety is also of paramount importance—discover what Indiana University is doing about it, and how you can stay informed.
You should be aware that once your child is eighteen, information such as health and academic records may not be available to you, in accordance with FERPA privacy laws.
