October 17: At 8 the snow commenced falling very fast. Traveling was difficult, the road being slippery and the snow falling so fast. At 3 o'clock we reached our encampment, about thirteen miles.

October 24: This morning before leaving camp a quantity of shoes were distributed among the barefooted Indians, the weather being too severe for marching without a covering to the feet.
