The Office of the Associate Vice President for Pre-Collegiate Initiatives and Academic Support
The Office of the Associate Vice President for Pre-Collegiate Initiatives and Academic Support, formerly known as the Office of the Associate Vice President Academic Support and Diversity, was established in 1998 to further enhance student success and to create a climate that promotes cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity. In addition to advocating for students, our staff coordinates a broad range of programs and services for students. Within the Office of Pre-Collegiate Initiatives and Academic Support, the associate vice president and the directors lead a team of professionals responsible for a wide variety of academic support services primarily for undergraduate students. We work to assure that student needs are met and all students are successful.

The Groups Program supports, retains, and increases the graduation rates of first-generation, low-income, and disabled students by helping them adjust to university life.

The Hudson & Holland Scholars Program provides financial and educational support to academically talented undergraduate students from traditionally underrepresented minority populations at IU Bloomington. HHSP focuses specifically on students pursuing degrees in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics.

This office is now part of Office of Mentoring Services and Leadership Development. Building on the success of the FASE Mentoring Program, OSM mentoring initiatives build working relationships between students and their peers, faculty, and staff from their academic department, school, or programs. Relationships between students, faculty, and staff are enhanced as mentoring resources are provided and systems are created to increase the numbers, retention, and graduation of underrepresented students in participating academic schools, departments, and campus programs.
