Present: Deborah Cohn, Sandra Dolby, Hal Evans, Jeff Hart (recorder), and Maxine Watson.

The meeting began at 4:00pm.  The Dean did not attend this meeting.

Members of the committee attended four departmental or program budget meetings since the last CPC meeting.  Policy-related issues that arose at these meetings were (among others:

• teaching loads of faculty and the awarding of course reductions by chairs for various purposes
• the administrative responsibilities of faculty on leave
• the desirability of hiring visiting professors or lecturers instead of AIs to teach courses that regular faculty are not able to teach
• the need to improve stipends for AIs in certain departments that have gotten far behind the competition in other universities

There was some further discussion of the issue of confidentiality for letters of reference for tenure candidates.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:45pm.
