Present: Rob Shakespeare (chair), Judith Anderson, Bob Becker, Tom Busey, Sandra Dolby, Roger Levesque, Al Ruesink (recorder), and Rick Van Kooten.

The meeting convened at 2:00.

Two enthusiastic, special thank -you's were bestowed: 1) On Tom Busey for his service on the CPC during the fall semester. Erik Bucy will return to that seat in January. 2) On Rob Shakespeare for his effective chairing of the CPC during the past three semesters. He will remain on the CPC for the spring semester, but the chair duties will be shared by Judith Anderson and Bob Becker.

Rob provided updates for the committee on several issues about which he has been seeking additional information.

Bob and Tom (and Rosemary by written document, contributing to their show) reported on the Chairs and Directors meeting of December 15. Swamy is clearly still functioning as ongoing Dean and is confident about the ability of the College to make new hires and to move forward. Plans for the College in the areas of Life Sciences and of International Programs were discussed, especially as they fall within the mission differentiation project of IU and within President Herbert's initiatives. The Associate Deans presented information on the status of new degrees and certificates, the generation of "best practices" guidelines for attracting and hiring new faculty, the New Frontier grants to be available in January, and the status of AI fellowships.

The CPC continued its work on revision of CPC Policy Statements.

Swamy joined the committee at 3:00 and provided us with his thoughts regarding some Policy Statements that are almost ready to go out for faculty comment. He left at 3:35.

The CPC decided that the Salary Policy statement was ready to go to faculty, and it will be distributed with the minutes of December 9th.
