The meeting was convened at 4:16 pm.

We discussed and approved, with two minor corrections, the minutes from our October 30th meeting.

Judith briefed us on her meeting with our in-coming Dean, Bennett Bertenthal. She highlighted his enthusiasm about the College and his eagerness to meet with faculty.

We discussed the November 2nd Chairs and Director’s meeting. It was noted that Chairs and Directors will receive information about gender equity and a link to the AAUP report entitled Faculty Gender Equity Indicators 2006. Given the significance of the issue, we found it important to provide you with the link http://www.aaup.org/AAUP/pubsres/research/geneq2006.htm. In addition, we urge everyone to read our own statement regarding gender equity: Gender Bias and the Faculty Gender Gap. We considered new faculty comments in response to our proposed revisions of the Policy on Suspension and Restoration of Faculty Governance in Departments (21 November 1996). We found the comments very helpful and have incorporated suggestions into a new draft. Our new draft makes more explicit our concern for ensuring effective opportunities for faculty voice.

We returned to revising policies concerning full-time clinical faculty and non-tenure-track faculty ("NTTs"). We are focusing our efforts on helping departments comply with BFC mandates. We are hopeful that departments will clearly delineate, such as through written policies or other documents, full-time NTTs’ rights and obligations as well as their conditions of employment.
