1. The minutes of 22 October were approved as amended.

2. The committee voted to recommend that Dean Hanson approve the Institute for the Study of Nigerian Languages and Cultures' petition to change its name to the West African Languages Institute.

3. Invited guests University Advisors Jeanne Jacobs and Evelyn Tracy discussed their views on the proposed Undergraduate Campus General Education Requirement. They concluded that the change will be beneficial if the separate Schools follow through in detail on the spirit of the proposal which is to have universal acceptance of the courses taken under the plan.

4. Associate Dean Zaret joined the meeting at 10:10 a.m.

A. He discussed some suggested revisions of the draft policy on Clinical Ranks.

B. He also briefed the committee on the current status and future plans of the Latino Studies Program.

C. He formally presented Gender Studies' petition for a change from program to department status. The proposal will be evaluated according to the relevant COAS policies (Policy for Changing a "Program" to a "Department," 5 December 1997; Policy for the Restructuring, Merging, Elimination of an Existing Unit, 22 January 1999).
