1. The minutes of 17 September were approved as amended.

2. James Craig announced that following the recommendation of Chancellor Gros Louis and the Policy Committee, the Search Committee for the Dean of the College has increased its membership by two. Andrea Ciccarelli, French and Italian, and Dale McFadden, Theatre and Drama, have agreed to serve on the committee.

3. Geoff Conrad informed the committee that President Brand will attend the October 22 meeting. Selected issues relevant to the College will be discussed with the President, and an agenda for this meeting will be developed.

4. The committee returned to the status of the clinical rank.

5. Dean Hanson joined the meeting at 9:50.

A. He said that the College will need a definition of the clinical rank that includes an outline of the conditions under which an appointment is appropriate. Also needed will be guidelines for the length and evaluation of the appointment.

B. He announced that the Campus Curriculum Committee has created a proposal for a campus-wide general education requirement for undergraduates that will be recognized by all schools. Details of the plan will be quickly forthcoming from the Campus Curriculum Committee.
