1. The minutes of 10 September were approved as amended.

2. James Craig announced that the search committee for Dean of the College has sent a recommendation to Chancellor Gros Louis that its membership be increased by two. This was the result of urging by the Policy Committee and some academic units that there be some broader representation on the search committee.

3. Although the committee wrote a policy on Clinical Faculty Appointments on September 12, 1997, it has decided to review the definition of clinical ranks and possibly broaden that definition.

4. Dean Hanson joined the meeting at 9:45 a.m.

A. He participated in the discussion on clinical ranks and agreed with the committee that there are varying applications of the clinical rank that make a review of its definition necessary.

B. He informed the committee that the College will encourage units to develop courses compatible with the School of Informatics, and that a letter providing details on this initiative would be sent out by the College.

C. He announced that a new proposal on the Freshman Curriculum will be forthcoming.
