Policy Committee Minutes: August 20, 19999
Present: Julia Bondanella, James Craig, Steven Girvin, Geoff Conrad (Chair)
Also Present: Dean Russell Hanson
1. Dean Hanson arrived at 9:00 a.m.
A. He updated the committee on personnel appointments and other ongoing matters in the College.
B. As is known, the Trustees have mandated that faculty salaries be increased to an average of fourth place in the Big Ten in all ranks. The source of the necessary funds is not yet known. Nonetheless, Dean Hanson asked the committee to consider developing policies for distributing the funds to COAS departments.
C. Dean Hanson stated that he will continue the practice of periodic meetings with groups of chairs and directors. He asked if the committee would like to send a representative to some or all of these meetings.
2. It was announced that Julia Bondanella will serve as the Policy Committee representative to the Bloomington Faculty Council. James Craig volunteered to serve as a liaison to CUE.
The meeting adjourned at 9:45.
