Policy Committee Minutes: April 16, 1999

Members Present: Geoff Conrad, Dale McFadden, Elinor Ostrom, Bonnie Sklarski, Vic Viola, Elizabeth Raff (Chair)

Also Present: Dean Morton Lowengrub

1. The minutes of 9 April were approved as amended.

2. Committee Reports:

    Budget Conferences
    The schedule of upcoming meetings was reviewed; supplemental comments to recently attended meetings were given by PC members.

    PC ELECTION
    It was announced that the results would be known in the following week.
3. Search Committee for the Dean of the College

    In accordance with usual BFC procedures, the BFC requested that the Policy Committee compile a list of suggested candidates from various units to serve on the search committee for filling the upcoming vacancy. The list was sent to Robert Eno of the BFC Nominations Committee for consideration. The Nominations Committee will compile a list from various sources that will be sent to Chancellor Kenneth R.R. Gros Louis for consideration.
4. Dean Lowengrub joined the meeting at 10:30.

    A. There was a brief review of the 18-20 Retirement Plan and its financial impact on the College.

    B. Dean Lowengrub requested that the PC create a set of guidelines for determining which retirement age faculty might best serve the College by continuing to teach and do research. It was emphasized that this possible opportunity was not a guaranteed option, and that the specific needs of the College would be a crucial part of determining what faculty might participate.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
