Jeanne Peterson and Carol Greenhouse from Gender Studies joined the meeting at 1:50 p.m.

Dean Zaret joined the meeting at 2:20 p.m.

1. The minutes of the February 11 meeting were approved as amended.

2. The web site for the Policy Committee election has been prepared. Once all candidates' statements are received, the election will be held. After discussing problems associated with on-line voting, including the number of participants, the Policy Committee decided to have a period of one month for the election, during which a reminder would be sent out once before the end of the voting period.

3. The assignment of budget conferences to CPC members continued. Each member attends five to six conferences each spring and presents a report to the Committee.

4. The Committee discussed the proposal requesting departmental status for Gender Studies with Jeanne Peterson and Carol Greenhouse, who clarified a number of issues, including the nature of scholarly inquiry in Gender Studies, the number of FTE in the core faculty, adjunct faculty, the development of the Ph.D. program, collaboration with other units and the two new faculty lines.

5. Dean Zaret discussed the assignment of some additional budget conferences to Committee members.
