Present: Bob Becker (chair), Judith Anderson, Erik Bucy, Sandra Dolby, Roger Levesque, Al Ruesink (recorder), Rob Shakespeare, and Rick Van Kooten.

Meeting with members of the College Dean Search Committee: Andrea Ciccarelli, Jeff Isaac, Beth Raff, Jane Rogan, and Linda Smith.

The meeting convened at 4:15 in the Law Conference Room.

The conversation was informal and wide-ranging. The Search Committee would like to present a list of Dean finalists to the Interim Provost and President by May or June. That list will be open prior to that time. Presently there is no particular preference for either internal or external candidates, though CPC members noted that an internal candidate could likely get up to fully effective speed more quickly. Some discussion noted the characteristics of past deans that seem more and less desirable. Much time was devoted to considering what characteristics could be most helpful for the next dean, given that no one person is likely to possess all possible skills. During this discussion there was much attention paid to the problems/opportunities likely facing the College in the next few years, issues such as curriculum content, curriculum articulations, interactions with other IU units, space and infrastructure, maintaining and developing research excellence, as well as financing generally. Before adjourning, we discussed some possible internal candidates, noting their likely "fits" in this position.

The meeting adjourned shortly before 6:00.
