Preparing for Success

What can you do with a liberal arts degree? Anything you want to do: from working in the arts, sciences, business, industry, education, government, and technology fields to attending law school, medical school, or graduate school to starting your own business. There is no better preparation for professional success than a first-rate liberal arts education. Many of the leaders in government, business, and industry have liberal arts educations. As undergraduates they learned the communication, reasoning, analytical, and quantitative skills necessary to succeed in whatever field they pursued.

The College is committed to preparing graduates for the real world. Many students participate in internships in their major area of study, and when you approach graduation, you’ll have the benefit of the Arts and Sciences Career Services to help you find that first job.

Arts and Sciences Career Services (ASCS)

This office provides services and resources for internship, job placement, and postgraduate study options. Hundreds of recruiters come to campus each year specifically to interview students in the College of Arts and Sciences because they know that liberal arts graduates have the preparation to excel in a dynamic working environment.

ASCS offers a career planning course — Q299 Job Search Strategies for Liberal Arts Students — and internship and career fairs, drop-in and individual counseling, and on-campus recruitment. ASCS operates in conjunction with the Career Development Center to provide a full range of career services for students.
